Woman dies after fire at Hong Kong flat, 3 others hospitalised
Fifty-year-old pronounced dead at Kwong Wah Hospital after fire at Ho Man Tin’s Valiant Court
A 50-year-old woman died and three other people were hospitalised after a fire in a Hong Kong flat on Friday that authorities said was caused by a malfunctioning power strip.
Police said the blaze broke out at Valiant Court in Ho Man Tin at around 10.04am.
Fire services were immediately deployed to the scene and the blaze in the 11th-floor flat was quickly put out.
“A preliminary investigation showed the fire arose due to a malfunctioning power strip,” a Fire Services Department spokeswoman said.
She said 22 firefighting vehicles, 15 ambulances and 137 firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the scene.
One jet and a breathing apparatus team put out the fire. Three teams of rescuers searched for residents.
