The Hong Kong Observatory has cancelled an amber rainstorm warning in force for about 3½ hours, after earlier advising residents to brace for wet weather under the influence of a low-pressure trough along the southern Chinese coast.

The forecaster issued the amber alert, the lowest level in a three-tier rainstorm warning system, at 11.10am on Sunday and later cancelled it at 2.35pm.

The warning means that heavy rain has fallen or is expected to fall generally over Hong Kong, exceeding 30mm (1.2 inches) in an hour, and is likely to continue.

Temperatures throughout the day are expected to hover between 27 and 31 degrees Celsius (80.6 and 87.8 Fahrenheit).
