Five traffic accidents have occurred on Tsuen Wan Road within the first three days of the launch of a new overpass, prompting Hong Kong transport authorities to install additional signage reminding motorists of the new arrangements.
Three of the incidents occurred within 15 minutes of each other on Tuesday morning along Tsuen Wan Road, involving a total of eight vehicles and leaving one person injured.
The new single-lane bridge, which opened on Sunday, links the Kowloon-bound fast lane of Tsuen Wan Road near the Kwai Tsing Interchange up-ramp to Kwai Chung Road.
According to police, the first accident at 8.24am involved two private cars and caused no injuries.
A second collision followed nearby at 8.27am, involving three private cars and a taxi.
A third accident occurred at 8.39am, involving two private cars and injuring a driver.
The injured driver, a 41-year-old man, complained of neck pain but remained conscious. He was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment.

The new bridge, which opened on Sunday, allows motorists from the Kwai Tsing Interchange up-ramp to bypass the southbound slow lane of Tsuen Wan Road, while vehicles travelling on the fast lane can reach Kwai Chung Road using the new link.
The bridge leads towards Kwun Tong, Lai Chi Kok and Mong Kok.
However, one accident occurred along Tsuen Wan Road on the bridge’s first day of operation, followed by another on Monday.
The Sunday incident occurred at 12.10pm on the Kowloon-bound section of Tsuen Wan Road, involving three private cars and a taxi.
One passenger of the private car that collided with the taxi was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital for chest pain.
Police said the crash happened when a taxi rammed into a private car ahead, after several vehicles in front slowed due to traffic conditions. No arrests were made.
On Monday, police received a report at 8.58am that three private cars had collided on the southbound side of Tsuen Wan Road near Kwai Shun Street.
The crash occurred when a vehicle slowed and two following cars failed to brake in time. No injuries were reported.
A government spokesman said on Tuesday that an independent consultant engaged by the Highways Department’s project team had assessed road safety before the bridge’s opening and found the signage sufficiently clear.
“In response to individual drivers who have not fully adjusted to the latest traffic arrangements, the Highways Department and Transport Department, after examining the latest situation, have already installed road safety signs and additional temporary traffic direction signs,” the spokesman said.
The spokesman added that more temporary traffic direction signs would be put up in the upper part of Tsuen Wan Road as a reminder for motorists.
