About 10 people worked together to lift a minibus and free a four-year-old girl whose hand was trapped under a wheel.

The incident happened outside SKH Holy Trinity Church on Ma Tau Chung Road, To Kwa Wan soon after 9am on Friday, just after the girl had stepped off the vehicle with her father.

They turned back because she had left her schoolbag on the minibus, but the vehicle started to move off just as her father banged on its side to get the driver’s attention, police said.

At this time, the girl accidentally fell, and her hand was caught under the minibus.

“A female witness told police that the girl’s left hand was trapped under the left rear wheel, and passers-by helped to free her,” a police spokesman said.

A video clip showed about 10 people – passers-by and some passengers from the minibus – rushing to the back of the vehicle to lift it and free the girl before emergency personnel arrived.

The spokesman said the girl suffered minor injuries and was taken conscious to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei for treatment.

Figures from the force show 111 people died and 15,851 people were injured in nearly 13,000 road traffic accidents in the first 10 months of this year.
