Driver and 12 passengers hurt after minibus rams into back of cement mixer truck in northern Hong Kong

A minibus driver and his 12 passengers were injured when his vehicle rammed into the back of a cement mixer truck in northern Hong Kong on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency personnel were called at 2.49pm after the crash near Fortune Garden on Ting Kok Road, Tai Po.

“Initial investigation showed 13 people were slightly injured and they were the driver of the minibus and his 12 passengers,” a police spokeswoman said, adding that the truck driver was unhurt in the incident.

According to the Fire Services Department, 10 ambulances and five fire engines were sent to the scene of the crash. One of the injured wore an oxygen mask and was stretchered into an ambulance.

The minibus’ windscreen was smashed in the accident.

Officers from the police’s New Territories North traffic unit were handling the case.

Separately, a coach driver escaped serious injuries after his vehicle went out of control, broke through a crash barrier, hurtled 15 metres down a slope and rammed into a parked car in Pat Heung on Tuesday morning.

Coach driver in crash that killed five dies in hospital

Police said there were no passengers on the coach when it crashed near Ling Wan Monastery on Lam Kam Road shortly before 10am.

Police said a 22-metre stretch of barrier, a lamp post and a road sign were damaged in the incident.

The driver, 44, suffered minor hand injuries and complained of waist pain and was taken to Pok Oi Hospital in Yuen Long for treatment.

Police said he passed a breathalyser test. No one was arrested in the incident.
