Hong Kong truck driver escapes injury in Tolo Highway crash only to be killed moments later by GoGoVan vehicle

  • Man leaves his truck without serious injury after losing control but is hit by approaching van

A Hong Kong driver narrowly escaped serious injury after losing control of his truck on Friday night, only to be struck and killed moments later by a van as he left the vehicle.

The 49-year-old man had been heading towards Kowloon along Tolo Highway in Tai Po at about 9.20pm. Police said he rammed into a crash barrier near Kam Shan.

A video emerged on Facebook showing sparks flying from the front of the truck. Another online video shows the man getting out of the truck to examine the damage.

But a few minutes later an approaching light goods van bearing a GoGoVan logo ploughs into both him and the truck, throwing the man back about 30 metres.

The victim was left unconscious with serious injuries, and was taken to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in Tai Po.

At 10.17pm, he was pronounced dead.

The 51-year-old GoGoVan van driver was uninjured but his vehicle was badly damaged. He was later arrested for dangerous driving causing death. Police investigations were under way.
