Man dies after passing out at wheel and crashing in Hong Kong’s Central-Wan Chai Bypass
- Police wait on autopsy to indicate what caused 47-year-old to lose consciousness
- It was the first fatal accident in the bypass since it opened to traffic in January

A man died after passing out at the wheel of his car and crashing into the wall of a tunnel in Hong Kong on Wednesday.
By 1pm, police did not know what caused Yau Man-kit to lose consciousness, and were waiting for the results of an autopsy.
The 47-year-old drove his red Volvo into the eastbound tunnel of the Central-Wan Chai Bypass in Central at about 7.50am. His 51-year-old sister was also in the car.
An online video showed the car suddenly veering to the right and crossing two lanes before it rammed into the concrete barrier of the tunnel two times and then came to a stop.
Yau’s sister called police, who said later that the driver was found unconscious at the wheel, with no obvious injuries.
He was taken to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Chai Wan, where he was later declared dead.
