Pedestrian dies after Hong Kong shuttle bus mounts pavement in Kowloon Bay

  • Driver lost control of bus that ran to Telford Plaza, trapping passer-by against a pillar

A pedestrian was killed and 10 people injured when a shopping centre’s shuttle bus mounted a pavement in a Kowloon Bay on Thursday.

The bus, serving the Mega Box shopping centre in the district, had just picked up passengers from the terminus at Telford Plaza phase two at about 6.50pm.

The driver lost control of the vehicle before crashing onto the pavement and hitting a pillar, trapping a passer-by.

The man, in his 30s, was later freed by firefighters before being taken unconscious to United Christian Hospital, where he later died.

At least two other pedestrians, the driver and passengers were among the 10 injured. They were taken to United Christian and Queen Elizabeth hospitals.

Police were investigating.
