A 66-year-old man has died after falling from a platform while conducting repair work at one of the busiest metro stations in Hong Kong.

The MTR Corporation said the man was working in a generator room on the Tung Chung line at the Hong Kong MTR Station, in Central, and was injured around 2am on Wednesday morning.

According to police, the contract worker, surnamed Wan, fell from a six-metre-high steel platform onto the tracks. He was rushed to hospital and later pronounced dead.

“After initial investigation the police believed that the death was not suspicious. The case is listed as an industrial accident,” a police spokesman said.
