3 light rail routes in Hong Kong resume operations after collision caused by human error
- No injuries reported but train captains involved suspended from duty pending investigation
- Case centres on light rail line between Goodview Garden and Tuen Mun Ferry Pier

Three light rail routes in Hong Kong resumed on Sunday morning at the Tuen Mun terminus after services were knocked out the night before by a rare train collision involving human error.
The MTR Corporation said two train drivers had been suspended from duty for investigation.
“The corporation is deeply concerned about the incident. Preliminary investigation showed [human factors were involved], and the concerned captains have been temporarily relieved from driving duty to assist in the investigation,” a company spokesman said in a statement issued in the early hours of Sunday.
Light rail routes 507, 614 and 614P were diverted to stop at Sam Shing, while services between Goodview Garden and Tuen Mun Ferry Pier were suspended on Saturday night after two trains collided at around 10.55pm at the latter station. No injuries were reported.
The incident happened when a route 614P train leaving platform 5 of the Tuen Mun stop was hit from behind at the interchange by another train on route 507 while it was leaving platform 6.
The MTR Corp said its Light Rail Operations Control Centre immediately reported the case to police and fire services. It also deployed staff to the scene to evacuate and offer help to passengers.
