At least 9 people hurt in 4 traffic accidents in an hour on Hong Kong highway on first day of Lunar New Year

  • Two men, three women and a baby injured in collision between two vehicles on Tolo Highway that resulted in car flipping over

Four traffic accidents were reported on one major Hong Kong road within an hour on the first day of Lunar New Year, with at least nine people, including a baby, injured.

Police received the first report at 3.07pm about a collision on Tolo Highway in the eastern New Territories involving two private vehicles on northbound lanes to Sheung Shui. One car flipped over.

Two men, three women and an infant were injured in the accident. The baby was said to be bleeding from the nose at the scene.

Just four minutes later, at 3.11pm, police were alerted to another accident on the highway, near Chak Cheung Street, where a male motorcyclist suffered injuries to his arms and legs.

Police said another motorcycle on the highway – which connects Sha Tin and Tai Po, and forms part of the New Territories circular Route 9 – at 3.44pm was sandwiched between two private vehicles, injuring the rider.
