Hong Kong motorcyclist dies after slamming into barrier on highway

  • Police say 43-year-old man was driving on Tuen Mun Road in Siu Lam when he ‘reportedly lost control and rammed into barriers’
  • He was taken to Tuen Mun Hospital with serious head and body injuries, but was pronounced dead at 7.23am

A motorcyclist died after slamming into a barrier on a Hong Kong highway early on Friday morning.

Police said the 43-year-old crashed his motorcycle on Tuen Mun Road in Siu Lam at around 6.27am.

“When approaching the Tuen Mun Road Bus-Bus Interchange, [he] reportedly lost control and rammed into barriers,” the force said.

Police said the rider suffered serious head and body injuries. He had lost consciousness and was taken to Tuen Mun Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7.23am.

Officers from the New Territories South traffic unit are investigating the cause of the accident.

Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to contact officers on 3661 1346.

Official figures show 15 people were killed in 14 traffic accidents in the first two months of this year. In the whole of last year, 96 people died in 96 fatal crashes.
