A teenage cyclist has died in hospital after a collision with a taxi in Hong Kong left him unconscious on Wednesday morning.
Police arrested a 69-year-old cabby on suspicion of dangerous driving in connection with the accident, which happened at around 1.18am along the Kwai Tsing Road section of a bridge in Tsing Yi.
The cyclist, 17, was travelling ahead of the taxi in the direction of Tsing Yi when the collision occurred, the force said.
“The taxi is suspected to have rammed the bicycle,” a police spokesman said.
The force said the boy suffered head injuries and lost consciousness as he was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital in Lai Chi Kok for treatment.
The teenager had been in a critical condition before he died at 9pm.
The taxi driver was also taken to the same hospital for treatment after complaining of neck pain.
Police earlier said the cabby had been detained on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm. He was later released on bail.
Officers from the New Territories South traffic unit are investigating the accident.
Official figures show 45 people were killed in 41 traffic accidents across the city in the first five months of this year. In 2023, 96 people died in 96 crashes.
