Luggage woes for HK Express passengers after fault at Hong Kong airport

Cathay Pacific’s budget arm, HK Express, says around 300 bags had to be taken on later flights after luggage system malfunctioned

Hong Kong airport’s baggage handling system was hit by a technical failure on Saturday, resulting in some passengers arriving at their destinations without their luggage.

Cathay Pacific’s budget arm, HK Express, said that around 300 bags had to be taken on later flights.

The Airport Authority said one of eight baggage sorters malfunctioned on Saturday morning, affecting the speed of some luggage processing.

“The authority immediately dispatched personnel to carry out repairs and transferred the affected baggage to other baggage sorters. It also deployed additional manpower to handle the affected baggage,” a spokesman said.

The system was back to normal at 11.30am, he added.

HK Express told the Post the issue had affected some of its passengers.
