A Citybus driver has been discharged from hospital in Hong Kong and said he is recovering after being hit in the chest by a metal pole that fell from a truck and pierced the windscreen of his bus.

The driver, surnamed Lo, was behind the wheel of a double-decker bus on Citybus route 967 when he was injured in the freak accident on Monday near the Tai Lam Tunnel in Yuen Long.

In a voice message released by the franchised bus company on Thursday, Lo said he was eager to resume serving passengers as soon as possible.

“I have been discharged from hospital now; I am very thankful for all the concern from the public. Thank you so much,” he said.

“There is nothing serious about my condition. I can leave hospital, which is something that the doctor has approved and thinks is OK. I just have to be careful not to walk too quickly.”
