Drivers show up at Hong Kong licensing offices despite end of walk-in service
Some applicants said they were unaware of the change, while others noted they were trying their luck

Some applicants for test-free driving licences turned up at a Hong Kong government office on Thursday hoping to secure walk-in appointments, despite transport authorities having suspended the arrangement that had drawn long queues and scalpers.
Following the announcement of the policy change, a Post reporter spotted three applicants attempting to book a walk-in appointment at the Transport Department’s licensing office in Admiralty.
They said they were either unaware of the changes or simply trying their luck. Staff soon informed them of the new arrangements and turned them away.
One woman, who declined to give her name, said she was processing documents for a friend.
“I don’t come here very often, so I didn’t know the arrangements had changed,” she said.
A man, who preferred to remain anonymous, said he was aware of the changes but wanted to try his luck to see if he could still get an appointment.
