A “dead” dog from a village in South Korea has been hailed as a deity after it miraculously crawled out of its grave following a car crash.
The story has had new life breathed into it after the South Korean TV show What on Earth visited the dog, called Hosun, and her owners recently at a village in the city of Yeongcheon, seven years after the “miracle” happened.
Hosun, who was severely injured and thought to be dead after being hit by a truck, now looks happy and healthy.
People in the village are convinced that she really did pass away and came back from the afterlife. As a result, Hosun has been conferred with “deity” status by some.

The accident happened after the canine escaped through a fence.
A neighbour, who could feel no heartbeat from the animal, thought she was dead and buried her on the owners’ behalf a few hundred metres from their home.
“It broke my heart. All I could do was to pray for her,” the dog’s owner Kim Sun-hwa recalled.
Her prayer worked, and four days later, Kim said she heard Hosun’s moaning from her home.
Her husband checked immediately and found the dog collapsed in a ditch, covered in mud.

“I got goosebumps all over my head because I thought she was dead. It was really a mystery,” the husband recalled.
They gave the animal water and took it to a vet who said she had suffered multiple bone fractures in her hindlegs and pelvis and was in severe pain.
The news spread and the story of Hosun the miracle dog was well on the way to becoming the stuff of village legend.
The TV show invited an animal expert to examine how she managed to “come back to life”.
The expert, surnamed Lee, said the neighbour who buried her did not dig a deep hole, so when she regained consciousness she was able to struggle out of her “grave” before trying to make her way home.
Lee said Hosun must have been exhausted by her efforts and had fallen into the ditch where she was found four days later. She had only been able to survive because there was some water close to where she lay.
After Hosun’s story was reported, a veterinary surgeon contacted the family and offered to help perform surgery to prevent future disability.
The vet said it was difficult to put her bones back in place because the tissue around them had fused together.

However, there was real hope that the surgery would be a success because she was so young.
Seven years on, and the “miracle” story of Hosun, the dog that came back from the dead, survives.
Despite still having a slight disability in her hips and hindlegs, Hosun can still run around the village where she grew up, and her elderly owners said they could not keep up with her when she happily frolics around.
“She is a dog that went through two miracles,” said another vet who had her checked recently.
“One is she came back to life from death, and the other is she lives and walks like a normal dog after serious injuries and a big operation,” the vet said.
Kim and her husband have been treating her like a baby, feeding her with all kinds of good food and always tethering her when they were not taking her for a walk, worrying about her getting hurt again.
“I am so grateful that she is with us. I hope she lives a happy and healthy life,” Kim said.
