A Malaysian shaman has faced accusations of abuse after he cut his tongue to perform a “blood kiss” ritual he said would cure illness in children.

The faith healer, surnamed Lin, carried out the ritual in a temple in Klang, Selangor, a state on the west coast of Malaysia.

He performed it on several children brought to him by their parents for healing.

The act was documented in photos posted on the temple’s Facebook page and later shared widely across the internet, igniting controversy.

The images show the shaman bent over a restrained child with his face and mouth on that of the youngster.

Some have criticised the parents for taking their children to the temple because of their superstitious beliefs, while others accused the shaman of child abuse.
