A Japanese company has become an online hit for offering a “scary person rental service” to help clients sort out a range of “troubles”.
An online user, known in Japan by the handle @yukitichqn, posted screenshots of the service’s web page on social media on August 28. The post has received 300,000 likes and 36,000 reposts.
Called a “scary person rental service”, the service rents out menacing-looking members of staff with tattoos, hinting at their potential for violence.
The firm promises that they will not do anything illegal, adding that if they are asked to do so, they will call off the job.

It also promises that they do not employ gangsters.
The service provider says they can solve the problems of clients quickly and effectively.
Past jobs have included helping a client tell their neighbour to quieten down.
In another case, an employee of the firm pretended to be the good friend of a client to stop a bullying situation at work.

They also accompanied a wife who went to confront her husband’s mistress, who confessed to the affair on the spot.
The company said that a client told them the “scary” person helped them calm down and feel safe when confronting others.
The company charges 20,000 Japanese yen (US$140) for every 30 minutes of service and 50,000 Japanese yen (US$340) for three hours.
The Tokyo-based business also asks clients to reimburse travel expenses for jobs outside the city’s metropolitan area.
The service provider boasts that most cases can be resolved within 30 minutes.
Many people have shown support for the service online.
“I think it is a useful service because it is human nature to bully the weak and fear the strong,” one online observer said.
“I wonder what would happen if both parties hire a scary person,” said another.

“A great thing about this service is not to frighten others, but to help one be less frightened by others so that they can reason things out themselves,” said a third.
Similar service went viral in China recently.
Some women hired bodyguards for hundreds of yuan a day to deal with abusive husbands, stalkers and cheating boyfriends.
The story took an unexpected turn on August 31, when the company announced it would discontinue the service after it went viral.
No reasons were given, but people speculated that they did not have a license to run the business.
