Chinese actress and a rising feminist icon, Zhang Jingchu, has shared her joy online after being admitted to a top film school in the United States.

Her achievement has encouraged many people to chase their dreams regardless of their background and age.

Zhang, 43, debuted as an actress in 2000 after graduating in directing from China’s Central Academy of Drama and has starred in many mainland and Hong Kong films such as Gu Changwei’s Peacock and Ann Hui’s Night and Fog.

She also appeared in several Hollywood blockbusters including Rush Hour 3 and the fifth Mission: Impossible film.

On March 31, she announced on Weibo that she had been admitted to the Master of Fine Arts programme in directing at her dream school, the American Film Institute.

“I hope my scream didn’t scare you,” Zhang said in the post, revealing her excitement.
