Famous Hong Kong actress, Hui Ying-hung has revealed that she received 89 stitches on her face due to stunt injuries during filming.
The news sparked a wave of sympathy online from people who also praised her dedication to her craft.
Hui, 65, launched her acting career at the age of 17 in the film The Brave Archer, in which she played the role of Mu Nianci, subsequently earning the title of Hong Kong’s “top female action star”.
In 1979, Hui won her first leading role as Cuihong, who worked in a brothel, in the movie Dirty Ho.
She was chosen because many other actresses had quit due to the physically demanding scenes, as she had to be punched multiple times without protection.

Throughout her career, she won numerous awards, including the Best Actress Award at the 1st Hong Kong Film Awards for her role as Cheng Dainan in the film My Young Auntie, directed by Lau Kar-leung.
She became the only actress in the history of the award to win the Best Actress Award for a martial arts film.
In a previous interview in 2024, Hui revealed that while shooting another film, Keep the Beat, she suffered six fractures in just two months, including fractured ribs and two broken toes.
She said: “It was tough at the time. If you can endure, keep enduring, and that is what we, as actors, should do.”
In 2017, at the age of 57, she suffered a recurrence of old injuries while filming the action movie Mrs K, resulting in permanent damage to her left knee.
Later, she publicly announced that the film would mark the end of her career as a kung fu fighting actor.
Recently, on the popular variety show Everybody Stand By, where Hui served as a mentor to other actors, she admitted to having undergone plastic surgery, revealing that she had “89 stitches” on her face.
She explained that due to her action scenes, her lips, the corners of her eyes, and her forehead had been injured many times by hard objects.

To restore her appearance, she had no choice but to undergo cosmetic surgery, and she acknowledged that her face might still look a bit unnatural.
“Do I think there is something wrong with plastic surgery? I think if it is necessary, then it is OK,” adding that if someone has had surgery, they should “bravely speak out.”
Chinese netizens have been moved by her dedication.
“Sister, this is not plastic surgery, it is restoration. You have worked so hard, take good care of yourself,” said one online observer.
Another said: “Beauty fades with age, but strength and character remain.”
