- Social media observers suggest the bride-to-be had simply pocketed the cash and used her boyfriend’s anger as an excuse to leave

The sorry tale of a man from Taiwan who was dumped by his girlfriend after he discovered she had lost all their wedding savings by making “bad stock market investments” has sparked much interest on social media.
On the online discussion forum Baoliao, the man said that he and his girlfriend had been diligently saving money for their wedding over the past five years.
After putting away NT$10,000 (US$325) a month over the period, the amount in their joint account exceeded NT$1 million.
However recently, when they needed money to pay for a restaurant reservation, the man was shocked to discover that practically the entire amount had vanished, leaving just NT$17 (55 US cents) in their joint account.
His girlfriend claimed she had invested the lot in the stock market, but refused to divulge more details.

“When I pushed her for an answer, she burst into tears and got angry, making it seem like I did something wrong,” the man said. His girlfriend then insisted they break up.
