A police academy in Japan has launched innovative courses and even enlisted professional beauty consultants to teach male police officers the art of make-up application, igniting a wave of humorous discussions among Chinese netizens.

In January, Fukushimaken Keisatsugakko, a police academy located in Fukushima prefecture, Japan, offered a make-up course for 60 police cadets, including several male officers nearing graduation, which garnered significant online attention.

Recognising the importance of a neat and professional appearance, particularly given that police officers frequently engage with various members of the community, the academy aimed to foster a positive impression and build trust.

“We want to remind students that as both members of society and future police officers, maintaining a proper appearance is crucial,” stated Takeshi Sugiura, the vice-principal of the police academy, during an interview with Nippon TV.

To ensure that the make-up course adhered to a high standard of professionalism, the academy collaborated with consultants from the renowned Japanese cosmetics brand Shiseido. These experts not only provided general make-up guidance but also offered personalised advice tailored specifically for the cadets.

During the course, the instructor led the students through fundamental make-up techniques, including moisturising their skin, applying primers, and using eyebrow pencils. Additionally, she taught them essential grooming skills, such as trimming eyebrows and styling their hair.
