The use of a sexy pole dance performer at the official real estate fair of a county government in China has triggered a heated public debate online.

A viral video shows a scantily clad pole dancer strutting her stuff on stage in front of local government officials, staff from 31 local real estate enterprises and property-buying members of the public.

The risque opening ceremony took place in Shangcai county in central China’s Henan province on February 10 and has been criticised by some as “inappropriate” after a video of it went online.

Critics said government public activities should be more circumspect, especially at events for people of all ages.

Liu Junmin, the county’s Party committee secretary, said that the local government had done a poor job, adding that those responsible will be held to account.
