‘Hurts my feet’: love of doting father who replaces sand in play pit with finer grains for young daughter arouses envy on Chinese social media
- The father consulted multiple construction supply firms before selecting the best quality sand from a nearby town
- A video of the fine sand being delivered to refurbish a sand pit for the girl went viral on Douyin after the mother posted a video of the process

A father in eastern China who replaced the sand in his residential compound’s sandpit after his daughter told him it “hurts my feet” has gone viral on mainland social media.
The father, from Shandong province, replaced it with finer sand and went viral on Douyin after the girl’s mother, surnamed Xie, posted a video of the whole process on May 25.
Xie said her daughter Hemiao, aged two, enjoyed playing in the sandpit but the original coarse sand mixed with small rocks was challenging to play with.
Her husband, whose name was not included in the report, then decided to replace the sand with a finer variety at his own expense.

After receiving permission from the property management company, he consulted multiple construction supplies firms before selecting the best quality sand from a nearby town at a cost of 800 yuan (US$110).
Xie said her husband paid attention to every detail of Hemiao’s likes and dislikes and described him jokingly as their daughter’s “slave”.
