A man in Taiwan has shocked the internet and sparked heated debate after he left his mother lying in the bathroom for six days following her collapse from a stroke, which ultimately led to her death.

The man, surnamed Zheng, 43, from Kaohsiung, Taiwan, had lived with his 66-year-old mother, also surnamed Zheng, for more than two decades. She suffered from emotional disorders and complications following a stroke.

Neighbours revealed that despite having fallen multiple times, she frequently refused help, even from social services, and would even insist on calling an ambulance herself.

On May 18, she collapsed in the bathroom after suffering a stroke.

Zheng said he initially asked if she was OK, and when she told him not to worry, he did not intervene.
