Twin brothers in China who knelt before their grandfather to express their gratitude after completing the national college entrance exam have moved countless people online.
Emotions were further heightened when it was later revealed that the walls of their modest home were covered with award certificates.
The heartfelt moment was first shared on June 9 in a video posted by an internet user known as Caicai’s Vlog who has more than 2.1 million followers.
The video shows the twin brothers from Liaocheng, Shandong province, in eastern China, kneeling down to thank their 70-year-old grandfather, Wang Yankai, after completing their college entrance exam.

In the footage, their grandfather is seen waiting outside the exam venue.
As soon as the exam ended, the twins rushed out of the building and ran straight towards him, dropping to their knees in a heartfelt gesture of thanks for his years of care and support.
The exam, which is also known as gaokao, is held each year in June.
It is considered the most important exam in a Chinese student’s life because admission to top universities is determined by how you perform in it.
It was reported that the brothers endured hardship from a young age.

Their father abandoned the family, and while their mother later remarried, she only offered limited support when they were growing up.
Since kindergarten, the twins have been raised entirely by their grandfather and grandmother, Wang Guimei, who is 72. The couple had to rely on a modest pension and the grandfather’s income as a village doctor.
“Their father went missing. Their mother remarried. We raised them ourselves. Honestly, even if we had to sell everything, we would make sure they stayed in school,” said Grandfather Wang.
The brothers excelled at school, as evidenced by a wall in their modest home that is covered with award certificates.
In front of the elder twin’s desk are several motivational quotes, including one that says “If I have no talent, I must be diligent,” alongside his gaokao target score.
Aside from their academic achievements, the brothers are also known for their deep filial piety.

“They have always been considerate. Whenever Grandpa brings them treats, they always say that we should eat first,” Grandma Wang told Jimu News.
Of the moment the boys knelt in gratitude, Grandmother Wang said: “I do not even have a phone. A neighbour in the village showed me the video of them kneeling to thank their grandfather. I could not stop crying.”
The video had attracted 500,000 likes and 28,000 comments by the time of writing.
One person said: “I cried the moment I saw the two kids kneeling.”
“These certificates look better than any wallpaper! Such wonderful children. How could their parents bear to leave them? I hope their missing father and remarried mother see how sensible these two kids are,” said another.
