A Chinese company has triggered widespread discussion online by offering a one-million-yuan (US$140,000) bonus to encourage weight loss among employees, with one staff member receiving 20,000 yuan after shedding over 20kg in just 90 days.
On August 12, Shenzhen-based tech firm Arashi Vision Inc., more commonly known as Insta360, made headlines with its annual “Million Yuan Weight Loss Challenge.”
This initiative, held each year, aims to motivate employees to adopt healthier lifestyles by exercising regularly and maintaining balanced diets.
The rules are straightforward: all employees are eligible to register, and for every 0.5kg of weight lost, participants can earn a cash reward of 500 yuan (US$70).
This year, a Gen-Z employee named Xie Yaqi lost 20kg within three months, earning a cash prize of 20,000 yuan (US$2,800) and the title of “Weight Loss Champion.”
Xie revealed that she remained disciplined throughout the challenge, carefully managing her diet and exercising for 1.5 hours every day.
