A Chinese woman ran into the first love of her life at a noodle shop 16 years after they broke up, and the pair got engaged six days later.
The woman was buying breakfast as usual at a rice noodle shop in Huizhou city, Guangdong province, southern China, on August 23, when she suddenly realised that the owner was her secondary school sweetheart and first love.
She asked him if he really was who she thought he was, and they began chatting before exchanging contact information.
The owner of the shop, a 34-year-old surnamed Yu, posted surveillance footage of the moment online.

The video has attracted 270,000 likes and 27,000 comments, with many people marvelling at the serendipity of their encounter.
Yu said he also recognised her but was nervous and dared not look at her. He also cried after she left.
The two dated in secondary school and broke up after going to college in different cities.
The last time they s was in 2009.
They were both single when they met again.

On August 25, Yu said he closed the shop for a day because “something good had happened to him”.
The next day, she took him to see her parents, which is considered a gesture of seeking engagement in China.
Yu then announced that they had engaged on August 29, six days after their reunion. That day was also the Qixi Festival, also known as China’s Valentine’s Day.
Yu said they planned to get married by the end of the year.
Yu later revealed that they broke up over misunderstandings. They still loved each other but were too stubborn to admit their mistakes.
He said he always knew she loved rice noodles and it was one of the reasons he learned how to cook rice noodles and open a shop in their hometown.

“Our reunion is the best luck we have, and there will be no more regrets,” said Yu, adding: “I will never lose you again.”
His fiancée’s name has not been revealed.
“Congratulations! Wish you live happily ever after,” said one online observer.
“I wish I could meet my first love one more time,” said another.
“She just wanted to buy breakfast and ended up becoming an owner of a breakfast shop,” said a third.
“The world does not have so many coincidences, but rather courage that makes us pursue what we truly want,” added a fourth.
