Cambridge University student dies after falling out of plane in Madagascar

Police say a student from Britain fell to her death from a small aeroplane in Madagascar after opening a door in mid-air.

Alana Cutland, 19, a natural sciences student at Cambridge University, fell from a Cessna C168 on July 25. Her body has not been found.

Cutland was on a research trip in the northeast of the African island.

Local police chief Sinola Nomenjahary told The Sun newspaper that Cutland unbuckled her seat belt, opened the plane door and tried to get out.

Another passenger struggled to hold onto her for several minutes before Cutland fell, he said.

Police are investigating what caused the incident.
