Fox network apologises for showing police chase suicide live on TV
Stunned anchorman says sorry after network shows carjacker shooting himself in the head

US network Fox News has apologised after screening live pictures of a carjacking suspect shooting himself in the head.
The shocking incident followed a high-speed car chase and came after the fleeing suspect abandoned his car and fled on foot into the Arizona desert.
He was seen producing a handgun, putting it to his right temple and then collapsing.
Outraged viewers bombarded Twitter, while a video of the incident briefly found its way onto YouTube.
Badly shaken senior anchorman Shepard Smith apologised profusely, saying: "We really messed up." He told viewers a five-second delay in the live feed should have ensured the graphic scene was not shown on air. "That didn't belong on TV," Smith said. "We took every precaution we knew how to take to keep that from being on TV.
"And I personally apologise to you ... That won't happen again on my watch."
Police later confirmed the man had died, with Twitter users criticising Fox News, part of Rupert Murdoch's media empire, for screening a suicide as it happened.
