The Edward Snowden saga took a bizarre twist yesterday after former Russian spy-turned- celebrity Anna Chapman apparently proposed to the US fugitive whistle-blower via Twitter.
In an unverified post, the 31-year-old Russian simply asked: "Snowden, will you marry me?!".
Red-haired Chapman made worldwide headlines in 2010 after she was caught in the US posing as a New York real-estate agent and swiftly deported back to Russia along with nine other suspected sleeper agents.
She later tweeted: "NSA, will you look after our children?"
When asked by e-mail if she was serious, Chapman told The Wall Street Journal : "You are welcome to use your imagination."
For Snowden, the proposal could offer him a solution to his problems as he could qualify for a Russian passport through marrying a Russian national.
