Three teenagers charged over the random killing of a university baseball player in a drive-by shooting told police they did it "for fun" to relieve the boredom of the school holidays.
Two were charged with the first degree murder of Christopher Lane, 22, of Melbourne, Australia, who was attending university in the US.

He was walking along a tree-lined road in Duncan, Oklahoma, last Friday when he was shot once in the back.
Duncan police chief Dan Ford said the boys had wanted to overcome a boring end to their summer vacation before classes in Duncan resumed on Tuesday.
He said one of the teenagers, Michael Jones, 17, told officers they were bored and killed Lane for "the fun of it". Prosecutor Jason Hicks said Chancey Luna, 16, was sitting in the back seat of a car when he fired the fatal bullet from a .22 calibre revolver.

Jones was driving the vehicle and the third teenager, James Edwards Jnr, 15, was in the passenger seat.
A recording of an emergency call offers a chilling account of the ensuing moments as a woman identifying herself as Joyce Smith tells the operator she saw Lane fall into a ditch as she drove past.
"He's got blood on his back," the woman says. Later relaying word from another witness on the scene to the emergency operator, the woman says: "He's turning blue. He's making a noise."
Luna and Edwards were charged with first-degree murder. Under Oklahoma law they will be tried as adults.
Jones was charged with using a vehicle in the discharge of a weapon and with accessory to first-degree murder after the fact. He will also be tried in adult court and faces between two years to life in prison if convicted on the counts he faces.
The two younger defendants face life without parole if convicted on the murder charge.
Edwards has had prior run-ins with the law and went to court last Friday - apparently after the shooting - to sign documents related to his juvenile probation.
Hicks, requesting that Edwards be held without bail, told the court: "I believe this man is a threat to the community and should not be let out. He thinks it's all a joke."
Luna and Edwards were held without bail, while bail for Jones was set at US$1 million.
"I'm appalled," Hicks said afterwards. "This is not supposed to happen in this community."
Lane played baseball at East Central University in Ada, 135 kilometres east of Duncan.
He had been visiting his girlfriend, Sarah Harper, and her parents in Duncan after he and Harper returned to the US from Australia about a week ago. Family and friends on two continents were in mourning for Lane.
Harper tearfully laid a cross at a streetside memorial in Duncan.
"We just thought we'd leave it here," Harper said. "This is his final spot."
Meanwhile in Melbourne, an impromptu memorial grew at the home plate he protected as a catcher on his old baseball team, Essendon.
The club has scheduled a memorial game for Sunday to raise funds for Lane's parents as they worked to have their boy's remains sent home.
Former Australian deputy prime minister Tim Fischer criticised the National Rifle Association and asked Australians to avoid the US as a way of putting pressure on Congress to act on gun control.
"Tourists thinking of going to the USA should think twice," Fischer said.
"I am deeply angry about this because of the callous attitude of the three teenagers, but it's a sign of the proliferation of guns on the ground in the USA. There is a gun for almost every American."
