Firefighters are struggling to contain wind-whipped blazes raging across forest land in Cordoba and three other Argentine provinces.

Cordoba Social Development Minister Daniel Passerini said on Tuesday that firefighters are having the toughest time in that central province with flames fanned by wind gusts and high temperatures.

Passerini says the blaze in Cordoba province has caused the evacuation of 480 people, most of them in the tourist zone of Calamuchita Valley. He says one man is in grave condition after being struck on the head by a tree.

Cordoba governor’s spokesman Jose Manuel De la Sota says local meteorologists predict even more difficult climatic conditions in the coming days, including temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius and winds of 50 to 60kph.
