Elephants, rhinos, bears… Not the type of animals you’d expect to find in London, but they’re there – on the London Underground.

These pictures show a variety of animals hiding in the famous map of the city’s Tube system.

They were discovered by Paul Middlewick in 1988, who stumbled upon the first one – an elephant – while he was staring at the map as he waited for a train.

And since then the menagerie has grown to include penguins, foxes, bats, toucans and even a wallaby.

The animals of the Underground have become so popular they now have their own website.
