A certain Norwegian Blue parrot is still dead, nearly 44 years after it shuffled off its mortal coil and joined the choir invisible in a famous television comedy sketch.

But there is life yet in Monty Python, the singularly influential British troupe, whose surviving members are set to reunite for their first live performances in more than a decade.

The announcement of a Monty Python reunion has been expected after several public remarks and hints dropped recently by the comedy team, which first appeared in 1969 in the BBC comedy series Monty Python's Flying Circus. They went on to create and star in feature films like Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Monty Python's Life of Brian and The Meaning of Life.

Founding member Terry Jones told the BBC on Tuesday: "We're getting together and putting on a show - it's real."

His comment followed several days of tweets posted by his longtime collaborator Eric Idle, who has been counting down to a Monty Python announcement scheduled for today.

I hope it makes us a lot of money. I hope to be able to pay off my mortgage

"Python meeting this morning," Idle wrote on Tuesday on his Twitter feed. "Can't wait." He added that a news conference was scheduled, one that will probably be carried by Sky News and streamed on the internet.
