John Lasseter, chief creative officer of Disney Animation Studios and Pixar, will direct the film, returning to oversee the latest sequel to the 1995 picture he co-wrote. It is set for release in June 2017.
, the 2010 instalment of the series featuring Tom Hanks and Tim Allen in the lead roles, is the second-biggest animated feature, with worldwide ticket sales of US$1.06 billion, topped only by , released by Disney last year.
Lasseter directed the first two movies. Hanks and Allen will return, according to Imdb.com.

It comes as Disney revealed the latest of the film franchise had finished shooting and would be called .
