Democrats have re-elected Nancy Pelosi to another two-year term as the party's leader in the US House of Representatives, two weeks after elections in which the party lost at least 12 seats.
The California Democrat was elected unopposed. She has been party leader in the chamber since 2003, including four years in which she was the first woman Speaker.
The party's other top leaders were also re-elected without challenge.
Pelosi, 74, won despite rumbling about the need for fresh blood and that the party did an inadequate job of selling its policies to voters. Pelosi told her colleagues that Democrats need to focus on helping the middle-class, sources said.
"We need a full-blown discussion of who we are, where we're going, what are our priorities. If everything is a priority, nothing is a priority," legislator Bill Pascrell said.
Many Democrats also blamed losses on an unfriendly political climate, including President Barack Obama's unpopularity.
