Show goes on for US actor Bill Cosby despite fourth woman's claims of sexual assault

Star to continue stand-up tour as latest woman claims he drugged and assaulted her in 1976. Cosby's lawyers have called the recent accusations “discredited” and “defamatory”.

American actor and comedian Bill Cosby plans to go ahead with a live stand-up comedy show in the United States tonight despite new allegations from a fourth women saying that the comedian sexually assaulted them decades ago.

Cosby will perform a sold-out show tonight in Melbourne, Florida, while next week's Las Vegas show and an engagement in Washington, which are part of his stand-up tour, will also go ahead.

On Thursday Cosby gave a show at a small theatre in Nassau, in the Bahamas, in a benefit for a women’s service organisation.

He reportedly made no mention of the allegations of sexual assault and stuck to his routine, including stories about his childhood growing up in Philadelphia. There were few empty seats but a few people gave him an ovation when he finished his performance..

The entertainer, 77, who was a leading US television star in the 1970s and 1980s, has never been charged.

His lawyers have called the allegations of sexual assault that have resurfaced in recent weeks “discredited” and “defamatory”.
