Spanish police said on Tuesday they have arrested a British man wanted for murder just days after he appeared on a list of Britain’s most wanted fugitives who are believed to be in Spain.
Police arrested Paul Graham Monk, 54, at his home on the outskirts of the eastern Mediterranean coastal town of Javea, police said in a statement.

The authorities suspect him of taking part in the kidnapping and murder of fellow Briton Francis Brennan whose body was found wrapped in plastic on a beach in Orihuela in eastern Spain in March last year.
British police also suspect Monk of trafficking in cocaine and cannabis.
Monk featured in a list published by Britain’s National Crime Agency last month identifying its most wanted fugitives believed to be on the run in Spain which has a huge population of British nationals.
Police said they had been monitoring Monk for several months and noticed how he changed his behaviour after his name appeared on the list.
“He would not leave his home at any moment and would charge other people to bring him food and other goods to the chalet,” police said in a statement.
The National Crime Agency published the list as part of Operation Captura, which was launched in Spain in 2006 to target British suspects who are thought to be in the country.
Monk’s arrest brings to 68 the total number of British suspects detained since Operation Captura was launched.
An estimated one million British nationals live in Spain all or part of the year, according to the British embassy.
Spain’s Costa del Sol – once dubbed the “Costa del Crime” – has been known as a hideaway for British criminals in the past, especially in the late 1970s and 80s when there were no extradition agreements with Britain.
But the situation changed in 2004 with European arrest warrants, making it easier to bring British criminals back to face justice.
