A student from Hong Kong has received an outpouring of support online after he was subjected to a racist tirade on board a US train from what he believes was an ex-marine soldier - but refused to back down.
Enoch Kan, 20, was travelling through Minneapolis on Wednesday when the drunk man, dressed in full marine garb, began hurling racist abuse at him.
The mathematics and statistics student at the University of Minnesota, who moved to the US from Hong Kong three years ago, claims he was branded a “weak Chinese ass” and a “ching chong”.
His abuser then began threatening to punch him while cornering him in the train carriage - but Mr Kan said he refused to rise to the bait until the man eventually gave up and left the train.
He wrote about his experience in an extended post on Facebook, prompting a flurry of supportive messages from friends.
