Three people were killed and more than 70 people injured in a huge pileup on a snowy central Pennsylvania interstate highway, authorities said Sunday.
Trooper Justin Summa of the state police barracks in Lebanon County said Saturday’s crash on Interstate 78 during a snow squall involved 64 vehicles, including a dozen commercial vehicles such as tractor-trailers and box trucks. There were also “numerous secondary crashes” behind that as traffic backed up, he said.

The crash shortly before 9.30am Saturday occurred in what drivers reported as whiteout conditions, with very low visibility and a lot of drifting snow, Summa said.
“People were saying they couldn’t see past the front bumpers of their cars,” Summa said Sunday.
