As many as 18 people are feared dead Monday after a tour bus burst into flames following a collision with a truck in southern Germany.

That number would surpass the last major European bus accident, which occurred in January in Italy and killed 16 people.

2017

January 21, ITALY: A Hungarian coach carrying 56 people bursts into flames after crashing on a highway near the northern city of Verona. Sixteen people die, mostly teenagers returning from a ski trip to France.

2015

October 23, FRANCE: At least 43 people are killed when a coach carrying members of a pensioner’s club collides with a lorry and bursts into flames near Puisseguin in southwest France, in the country’s worst road accident in three decades.
