Motorway bridge collapses in Genoa, Italy, killing about 30
Witnesses said there were as many as 20 vehicles on the section of elevated motorway at the time it collapsed
Italy’s Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said Monday that “around 30” have been killed after a motorway bridge collapsed in the northwestern port city of Genoa.
“Unfortunately there are around 30 dead and many injured in a serious condition,” Salvini told reporters in the Sicilian city of Catania.
Earlier, the head of the local ambulance service said there were “dozens of dead”, Italian news agency Adnkronos reported.

Rescuers scouring through the wreckage after part of a viaduct of the A10 freeway in the northern port city collapsed said there were “tens of victims”, while images from the scene showed an entire carriageway plunged on to railway lines below.
Cars and trucks were trapped in the rubble and nearby buildings damaged.
