Dissident Republican ‘IRA’ claims responsibility for UK letter bombs

A dissident Republican group calling itself the “IRA” claimed responsibility on Tuesday for letter bombs sent to addresses in London and the University of Glasgow last week.

“The claim was allegedly made on behalf of the ‘IRA’,” London’s Metropolitan Police said.

A media outlet in Northern Ireland received a claim of responsibility on Monday using a recognised code word, according to police.

The group making the claim said five packages were sent, but police have so far only found four.

Police blew up a parcel sent to the University of Glasgow on March 6 and said it was linked to three devices sent to major transport hubs in London the day before.
