Brexit: EU ‘war-gaming’ collapse of UK PM Theresa May’s government after two crushing defeats
- After two-and-a-half years of tortuous divorce negotiations with the EU, the final outcome is still uncertain

The European Union is reportedly war-gaming for the collapse of Prime Minister Theresa May’s government after her Brexit divorce deal suffered two crushing defeats.
The Observer newspaper reported that EU officials are concerned that May has little chance of passing her divorce deal if she brings it back before the UK Parliament for a third time this week.
A diplomatic note between European ambassadors and senior officials reveals an attempt to ensure that May’s successor would not be able to unpick the divorce deal agreed between Britain and the EU last year, The Observer said.
Some hardline Brexiters want to replace May with a leader who will back a harder split with Brussels.
May has warned lawmakers that unless they approved her Brexit divorce deal after two crushing defeats, Britain’s exit from the European Union could face a long delay and could involve taking part in European parliament elections.
After two-and-a-half years of tortuous divorce negotiations with the EU, the final outcome is still uncertain with options including a long delay, exiting with May’s deal, a disorderly exit without a deal or even another referendum.
