Coronavirus: Boris Johnson leaves hospital, thanks NHS for saving his life
- The British prime minister will continue his recovery from Covid-19 at his country residence of Chequers
- He named and thanked the nurses who had cared for him in a video message as the UK became the fifth country with more than 10,000 deaths

“The PM has been discharged from hospital to continue his recovery, at Chequers,” the spokesman said, referring to the prime minister’s country estate outside London.
“On the advice of his medical team, the PM will not be immediately returning to work. He wishes to thank everybody at St Thomas’ for the brilliant care he has received.”
Johnson thanked the National Health Service (NHS) for saving his life, saying “things could have gone either way” for him as he battled Covid-19.
“I have today left hospital after a week in which the NHS has saved my life, no question,” he said in a five-minute video message posted on Twitter from 10 Downing Street.
He named and thanked the nurses who had cared for him, with a special mention for two of them, Jenny from New Zealand and Luis from Portugal, who he said had stood by his bedside for 48 hours “when things could have gone either way”.
