Britain’s Princess Beatrice, Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter, has given birth to a baby girl, her first child with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Buckingham Palace announced on Monday.

The baby, who weighed 2.78 kilograms (6 pounds and 2 ounces), was born at London’s Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on Saturday. Her name was not immediately revealed.

Princess Beatrice, the 10th in line to the throne and the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York, married property developer Mapelli Mozzi in July 2020.

“The new baby’s grandparents and great-grandparents have all been informed and are delighted with the news. The family would like to thank all the staff at the hospital for their wonderful care,” the palace’s statement said.

“Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well, and the couple are looking forward to introducing their daughter to her big brother Christopher Woolf,” it said, referring to Mapelli Mozzi’s son from a previous relationship with Taiwanese-American architect Dara Huang.

The baby girl is the 12th great-grandchild for Britain’s 95-year-old monarch.

Can Prince Andrew’s reputation ever recover? The royal lawsuit explained

The birth is good news for Princess Beatrice’ family, coming on the back of a slew of negative headlines that have followed her father Prince Andrew, the queen’s second son.

A British court on Friday said the prince’s legal team had been given seven days to challenge a decision to notify him about a US civil case accusing him of sexual assault.

The Duke of York’s accuser, Virginia Guiffre, on Wednesday successfully applied to the High Court of England and Wales for it to formally contact him about the case in New York.

Guiffre claims Prince Andrew sexually assaulted her more than 20 years ago when she was 17 and a minor under US state law.

But lawyers for the duke, who denies the claims, have claimed legal papers in the case, in which she is suing for damages, were not properly served.

The High Court said lawyers for the 60-year-old duke had “indicated that they may seek to challenge” the validity of its ruling.

“The High Court has directed that any challenge must be made by close of business on September 24,” it added in a statement.

Britain’s domestic Press Association news agency said it understood that Andrew would lodge an appeal.
