Woman killed by fallen tree in Scotland as storm Malik bears down on parts of Europe

  • The woman was struck by a tree in the city of Aberdeen, police reported on Saturday, as wind speeds of almost 140km per hour were measured
  • Across Denmark, 10,000 emergency workers are on standby, the Ritzau news agency reported

A woman has died due to strong winds in Scotland as storm Malik bears down on parts of Europe.

The woman was struck by a tree in the city of Aberdeen, police reported on Saturday.

Wind speeds of almost 140km per hour have been measured on Scotland’s eastern coast. Two first division football matches were cancelled as a precaution.

The storm also caused damage in northern England. Across the country, more than 60,000 homes were without power because lines were cut.

Meanwhile, Denmark is bracing itself for the arrival of the storm.
