Israel says it has foiled plans by Tehran to assassinate a US general in Germany, a journalist in France and an Israeli diplomat in Turkey.

“These terrorist attacks were ordered, approved and financed by the senior leadership of the Iranian regime,” the office of Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced on Sunday. “They were to be carried out by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).”

An agent charged with the attacks was arrested and interrogated on Iranian soil several months ago, the statement said. On Sunday Israeli radio reported that the agent was a member of Iran’s elite Quds Brigades.

Following his arrest and interrogation by the Israeli foreign intelligence service Mossad, the agent was reportedly released and is currently in a European country. He confessed to receiving US$150,000 dollars for preparing the attacks and had been promised another US$1 million after the attacks.

Israeli media released a video purporting to show the agent confessing to the assassination plans and expressing remorse for his actions.
